Dundee boasts two universities - the University of Abertay Dundee and the University of Dundee (which has just been named Scottish University of the Year by The Sunday Times) - a major further education college, a teacher training college and a unique Al-Maktoum Institute postgraduate institution. The city now has one of the highest student/population ratios in the UK at more than 1 in 7. The growth in the number of successful local companies involved in technology, biotechnology and research owes much to the strong links fostered between academia and industry.
