Companies in Dundee offer a wide range of expertise including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, contract research organisations, ag-bio and environmental biotechnology. There are currently more than 4100 people employed in the sector, accounting for 16% of the local economy.
Both of Dundee's Universities undertake world-class research activities and collaborations, with all the relevant departments at the University of Dundee being rated either 5 or 5*, and the University of Abertay being ranked as the best in Scotland for its environmental research.  Dundee is also home to one of Scotland’s leading technical colleges, Dundee & Angus College, offering our industrial partners customised training for the life sciences sector.
The Academic Health Science Partnership in Tayside (AHSP) is the first formal Academic Health Science Partnership in Scotland, bringing together the delivery of healthcare services, education, quality improvement and research to improve the health and well-being of the population. AHSP is jointly supported by the Scottish Government, University of Dundee and NHS Tayside.
BioDundee was established in 1997 as a partnership to promote the growth of life sciences in the Dundee area and brings together the public, private and academic sectors. Its aim is to foster and create within Dundee an environment where continuous learning, improvement and innovation can take place and where experiences can be shared, and best practices embraced by existing, new and incoming companies. BioDundee partners can provide a wide range of business and research opportunities, from licensing and investment, through to joint ventures and collaborations.

BioDundee supports a range of activities, including the BioDundee Annual Conference which is attended by delegates from around the globe, bespoke training and an e-newsletter. BioDundee brings together the local sector, as well as providing a focus for the promotion of Dundee as a global centre of excellence for life sciences.
