Dundee's artistic and cultural renaissance is progressing hand in hand with its economic regeneration. They city's traditions in literature, drama and art have flourished with the advent of the hugely successful Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre (DCA) and Dundee Rep. These institutions and a thriving music scene, have contributed greatly to a renewed energy and vibrancy about the city's cultural life.

DCA has trail blazed its way to becoming one of the UK's leading artistic centres, attracting thousands of visitors each year to their exhibitions and cultural events including Discovery Children's Film Festival, Projector Animation and international experimental music festival Kill Your Timid Notion have placed Dundee firmly on Europe's cultural map.

Dundee Rep is home to Scotland's only full-time acting ensemble and a contemporary dance company. The Rep produces and eclectic programme of high quality drama, comedy, music and dance and now stages touring performances around the country.

The £5m dance, theatre and conference centre The Space at Dundee College is home to the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance offering award-winning courses and attracting Europe's leading dance performers to stage shows and workshops in the city.

At the heart of the city centre, The McManus: Dundee's Gallery and Museum has recently undergone an £8m revamp to restore its Victorian splendour and create a museum for the 21st century.

The world's greatest museum of art and design, the Victoria and Albert Museum, has announced a proposal for a new landmark building in Dundee, the £45m project will occupy a prime site at the hear of the Dundee Waterfront redevelopment.

Festivals are central to Dundee's cultural scene with the highly successful Dundee Jazz Festival Dundee Blues Bonanza, Literary Festival and the Dundee Flower and Food Festival. The Caird Hall plays host to a varied programme of performances from the RSNO to Snow Patrol.
