The University of Dundee has 15,000 students (including nearly 3,000 part time) across seven faculties. It has achieved excellence in both teaching and research, with 5 and 5 star ratings in the last Research Assessment Exercise in a range of fields including biological sciences, history, law, dentistry and maths. The University was awarded a run of top ratings in the teaching quality assessments and listed top for teaching in Scotland and for graduate salaries by the Sunday Times. Duncan of Jordanstone faculty of art and design is recognised as one of the top art colleges in the UK and the Medical School was rated in an Oxford survey as the best university in the UK for preparing doctors for their profession 54% of the University's research is achieving 'world leading' or 'internationally excellent' standards in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (2008)

Abertay

The University of Abertay Dundee, with over 4500 students on campus plus a further 1000 in Scotland and overseas, is a future-oriented institution with a close relationship and strong collaboration with industry and commerce. Relevance to industry is shown in the research and consultancy activities which have led to the establishment of, for example, the Electronic, Photonic and Information Control Centre (EpiCentre), the Manufacturing and Intelligent Systems Technologies centre (MIST), the Abertay Centre for the Environment (ACE) and the International Centre for Computer Games and Virtual Entertainment (IC-CAVE). Supporting Dundee’s sectoral strength in digital media, Abertay is the only university in the UK to offer postgraduate courses in computer games technology.

al-maktoum

Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic & Islamic Studies is a new and exciting development in teaching and research in the study of Islam & Muslims. Indeed, the Institute is a distinctive and unique development at the academic and community levels, and the first of its kind in Scotland.

Following the historic and successful visit of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum to officially open Al-Maktoum Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies in Dundee on 6 May 2002, the relationship between Dubai and Dundee has been enhanced greatly by the Institute’s presence in the City.

Working with the ethos or promoting a greater understanding and building bridges through academic excellence and serving the communities, the Al-Maktoum Institute has become an integral part of Dundee’s City and society. In addition, this has promoted Dundee as home to a centre of excellence in Arabic and Islamic Studies.
